Living on the Financial Edge? Find Low-Cost and Free Resources on Dec. 1

Last updated on November 23, 2020

Many of us are trying to stay at home right now. Some of us are also trying to keep our home.

We need help paying rent. Or child care, groceries, transportation … It all can seem overwhelming.

The good news: You are not alone. Dallas College wants to help you survive (and ultimately thrive).

A Day of Sharing: Connections and Resources

Dallas College will host an online event Dec. 1 for students to explore the free resources available through the college and some of its community partners.

Attendees (like you and/or the classmates you tell!) can move virtually from room to room at this fair. In each “room,” you’ll make new connections and get access to the resources you so critically need right now. You’ll also be eligible to win one of the many food gift cards if you visit at least two virtual rooms.

Virtual Rooms at the Fair Include:

  • Room 1 – Food Resources: Fill Your Table with North Texas Food Bank
  • Room 2 – Evictions: Know Your Rights with Dallas Free Legal Aid
  • Room 3 – Rental Assistance Programs: Pay Your Rent with Dallas County Housing Authority
  • Room 4 – Dallas College Resource Room: Explore Internal Resources and Scholarships, including Emergency Aid, laptops and Wi-Fi hotspots as well as counseling services
  • Room 5 – Medical Resources and Affordable Insurance: Put Your Health First

Register for Free Connections Resources

While the resource fair is free to students at Dallas College, registration is required to enter the virtual rooms.

Sign up today (in less than one minute!) by sharing your name, email and student ID number on the Day of Sharing registration form. Once you register, you’ll receive a confirmation email with further details.

Help a Friend, Too

Do you know a classmate at Dallas College who might benefit from the free connections and resources at the Day of Sharing? Tell them about the virtual fair!

This event is great for:

  • People struggling to juggle the financial costs of rent, food, housing, transportation, child care or legal services
  • Caregivers who need support – from parents to those who are giving care to the elderly or sick
  • Anyone struggling with isolation, mental health or coping during a pandemic (also see Counseling, CARE and Health Services)
  • Job searchers trying to make a living wage (also see Career Services)
  • Veterans transitioning from service and military life (also see Veterans Services)
  • Students trying to perform well in the classroom (also see Learning Support services)

Word of mouth is one of the best ways you can help equip and empower fellow students in the Dallas College community.
