Get Help Finding Reduced-Cost Services

By Morgan Christian

Way back in April, we told you all about the new Virtual Student Resources page, which has all the tools you need to succeed in college, from career services to scholarships and tutoring. But what about your life outside of school?

Have you ever needed help with things like arranging child care, finding medical services or learning how to manage money?

That’s where DCCCD’s My Community Services directory comes in. It’s a free online portal where students (or anyone in Dallas) can find programs and local organizations that offer assistance in a variety of categories, including housing, food, transit, health, money, legal aid and more.

Just enter your ZIP code or a keyword to find the help you need. You can even filter your searches by cost, eligibility, language or hours, among other factors. Results show up in both a list and interactive map. And if you’d like to save your searches or leave reviews, you just need to create an account. Anyone can set one up; DCCCD students and employees will use their district email login information. Click on the “Sign Up” button in the top-right corner of the homepage to start the process.

My Community Services has a lot to explore. We hope you will take advantage of it this summer, whether you’re still taking classes or not. When you feel secure and positive in your personal life, your academic life can be successful, too.

Learn more about how to use the directory, including accessing it in different languages and making referrals for other people. (Share with your friends — we all need to know what resources are out there if we need them!)
