Can I Transfer to a University From a Community College?

Last updated on September 7, 2017

If you’re planning to continue your education at a university after DCCCD, you probably have a few questions. Which university is the right fit for me? Which one offers my major? What’ll it cost?

We know it seems like a lot to consider, but never fear — the DCCCD Transfer Services guide is here to help! We’ve put together tons of important information to help guide you through the transfer process, including scholarships, tuition costs and phone numbers to call. One of the first things you’ll need to learn about, though, is transfer equivalency.

DCCCD Transfer Equivalency Guide

Using the Texas Common Course Numbering System, it’s easy to figure out which of your DCCCD classes will transfer to your new university. For example, here are some courses offered at DCCCD that will transfer between our colleges and the University of Texas at Austin.

Dallas County Community College District University of Texas at Austin
CHEM 1411: General Chemistry I CH 301+104M: Principles of Chemistry I
CHEM 1412: General Chemistry II CH 302+104N: Principles of Chemistry II
ECON 2301: Principles of Macroeconomics ECO 304L: Introduction to Macroeconomics
ECON 2302: Principles of Microeconomics ECO 304K: Introduction to Microeconomics
ENGL 1301: Composition I RHE 306: Rhetoric & Writing
ENGL 1302: Composition II RHE 309K: Topics in Writing
BIOL 2401: Anatomy & Physiology I BIO 416K: Physiology & Functional Anatomy I
BIOL 2402: Anatomy & Physiology II BIO 416L: Physiology & Functional Anatomy II
(Not a Longhorn? Compare other Texas institutions to DCCCD on the Texas Common Course Numbering System website.)

This will be very important to keep in mind as you make plans for your education. You will also want to consider whether or not there are articulation agreements between DCCCD and the university of your choice — for some programs, we may have specific agreements in place designed to make the transfer process run as smoothly as possible.
