What’s So Great About Summer Courses?
DCCCD summer classes mostly come in three basic options: Summer I, Summer II and Maymester. In most cases, that means you can take three or more credit hours over the course of just 4-5 weeks and transfer those credits back to your university at a fraction of the tuition cost. For example: a three-hour course at DCCCD will cost just $177 for an in-county student, compared to thousands of dollars for the same three-hour course at local universities.
If you primarily attend a public Texas college or university, you’ll also want to be aware of “guaranteed transfer” for Core Curriculum courses. As long as your GPA for Core Curriculum classes hits a 2.0 or above, those classes are guaranteed to transfer as part of your general education requirements. Don’t Forget: Transcripts!
If you normally attend another college or university and you’re taking classes with us, we’ll need your most current transcripts from those other institutions. One of the primary reasons for this is because many courses have prerequisites that must be met before you can register. Your transcripts are the main way we find out if you’ve taken those prerequisites elsewhere before coming to DCCCD.
Once we receive your transcript, it’ll need to be evaluated. Transcripts are evaluated by DCCCD Admissions/Registrar’s offices, and you will need to have your transcripts sent to the college you plan to attend. The length of time for transcript evaluation varies depending on when your transcript is received, the length of the transcript and when it’s received.
