DCCCD Ad Campaign: Meet Ezra

Next up on our student profiles from the 2016 DCCCD ad campaign, you’ll get to meet Ezra Calado from Richland. In addition to being a student blogger for DCCCD, Ezra worked with us to help promote the “Higher Education That Actually Gets You Hired” concept to Dallas County. You can watch the finished product at the end of this post.

Ezra Calado, Richland College StudentSo you’re in our new ad campaign! What’s your name?

Ezra Calado

What made you take an interest in doing the ad with us?

I was super involved on the Richland campus as an orientation leader, SGA vice president, and every other thing. I figured representing DCCCD in an ad was the next thing to do!

What was the process of shooting like for you? What was it like being on set?

Seeing all the equipment was a bit intimidating at first but it was a really insightful experience. Everyone was really nice and I felt comfortable doing it all even if it was my first time filming an ad.

What did you like (or not like) about being in the ads?

Everything! I loved getting my makeup and hair done. I wanted to Snapchat everything and eat all the snacks in the snack cart.

What are you studying? Why did you choose it?

I’m studying accounting and human rights because I want the background of finance and economics in order to create practical solutions.

Why did you choose to study at DCCCD?

As a product of a Dallas County magnet school, the DCCCD colleges were always a place we could take summer classes and get ahead with dual credit courses. After researching my options when I seriously thought I would delay college for a year, DCCCD was the most practical choice. Against all stigma of community colleges and such, it was the best decision I made. It allowed me to explore my options, broaden my perspective on unlikely majors, and I found what I wanted to do with my education. Among all those good things, I found friends for life and was spoiled by the best on-campus job.

What were you doing before attending DCCCD?

I was fresh out of high school and planned to go to the University of Texas at Dallas. However, I couldn’t wrap my head around paying university tuition, making good grades, and being a mom of a two-month-old!

What are your educational or professional plans after DCCCD?

I’m transferring to a four year then I plan to work as an accountant before going to law school and pursuing legislation and human rights affairs.

What do you like best about DCCCD?

DCCCD offers a lot of leadership opportunities both on campus and across all the campuses. I love learning and growing with all the student leaders across the campuses at DCCCD. DCCCD is a great outlet for meeting new people whether it’s networking or regular college friendship.

What is something you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I enjoy being a tourist in my own city and being involved in the growth of arts and culture in Dallas (mostly by watching all the plays and musicals).

Glad you could meet Ezra with us today! Find out more about DCCCD’s programs on our website, and be on the lookout for more DCCCD 2016 ad campaign student profiles.
