El Centro Student Receives Largest Private Scholarship for Transfer Students

Photo of Luis Veloz of El Centro CollegeLuis Veloz of El Centro College has been named a recipient of The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation 2015 Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship​, the largest private scholarship for students transferring from two-year community colleges to four-year baccalaureate institutions.

A total of 2,061 community college students nationwide applied for this year’s scholarship, representing 540 community colleges in all 50 states. Of these applicants, only four percent were chosen to receive the prestigious Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship which awards students up to $40,000 per year (for up to three years).

“This fall I will be going to UT Austin where I will be studying sociology with a business certificate,” explains Veloz. “I am currently interning for the Mayor.”
